Black mulberry trees in Pukanec

There are more than 700 specimens of the black mulberry tree in Pukanec and surroundings what is the richest occurrence of this rare tree in Europe. Among the inhabitants and visitors as well it became popular especially for the delicious taste of its red and black fruit.

In the region of Slovakia rather small area (predominantly in the south) is dedicated to growing this type of tree. The highest concentration of black mulberry trees can be found on the southern slopes of the Štiavnické Mts., namely in Pukanec and surroundings. Even here the growth and prosperity of mulberry trees are connected with the type soil in the vineyards - seldom it is found in other places.
